A water company has apologised for disruption caused by five-way temporary traffic lights on a road in Staffordshire.

Severn Trent Water said it had repaired a burst pipe on the A53 near its junction with Clay Lake in Endon, but the road would need to remain closed until resurfacing had set.

A spokesperson said the company understood people’s frustration, but that the work was vital to keep them safe.

Repairs took place on Thursday, with the road expected to fully reopen on Saturday.

The spokesperson said: “We want to thank locals for their patience and assure them we are working as fast as we can to get things back to normal.

“We apologise again for any disruption caused at this busy junction.”

Councillor Joe Porter, who represents Endon and Brown Edge, said he was frustrated the roadworks were causing disruption for people at a busy time of year.

He said he had liaised with the water company to ensure the roadworks were completed as quickly as possible to minimise disruption.
