New options considered for narrow St Helier road

Minister for Infrastructure asked the transport team to review "alternative options"

Jersey's government has decided to proceed with a new trial for a narrow road in St Helier to see how it can be operated most effectively.

St John's Road in St Helier has "been a concern for residents" due to the pavements and carriageway being narrow, the government said last May.

Now new Minister for Infrastructure Andy Jehan has said he has asked the transport team to review alternative options and to model potential impacts after recognising there were community concerns following a proposed one-way scheme.

He said a new traffic management scheme was due to be introduced during the summer half-term, with details still be confirmed.

An initial plan was to trial the narrow lower section of the road as one-way in a northbound direction away from Cheapside.

The proposed one-way trial was delayed three times last year.

Constable Jehan explained they had "considered the review and decided to proceed with a trial of southbound-only traffic on the narrow lower section between the Parade Road junction and Cheapside".

"The intention is to introduce the traffic management during the summer half-term.

"More details of the exact arrangements will be released nearer the time."
