Calls for busy A3 junction to Woking to be closed

Surrey County Council officers are worried about collisions on Potters Lane

A road into Woking and other surrounding towns and villages should be closed at its junction with the A3 due to safety reasons, according to a council.
Surrey County Council (SCC) told National Highways that Potters Lane should be sealed at the junction in Send, due to "the ongoing pattern of collisions".
Guildford MP, Zöe Franklin, said residents had raised "serious concerns," including about road safety.
National Highways said it will "continue to monitor the safety of the junction".
Clive Sewter, who lives on Potters Lane, told BBC Radio Surrey that the slip road from the A3 is "inappropriate".
"It's just not good enough for feeding on to a small lane like this," he said.
"It's just a question of how long it's going to be before somebody gets killed," he said.

Residents Hilary and Clive Sewter and Alice Cherry say they are worried about safety and the number of cars.
Franklin said: "In response to a recent letter I sent to residents of Potters Lane, many have raised serious concerns with me about speeding, road safety, large vehicles using the road and more, and some have asked whether one way to address this is to close the access from the A3.
"I am interested to hear National Highways' view on this."
She added that she had written to SatNav companies about preventing "inappropriate vehicles" using the road.

A spokesperson for SCC said: "We have recommended to National Highways that they close the junction with Potters Lane due to the ongoing pattern of collisions taking place there.
"The decision lies with National Highways about whether to proceed with this."
The situation on Potters Lane will also be discussed at a meeting of Send Parish Council on Monday.
A National Highways spokesperson said: "Safety is our top priority, and we carefully consider all feedback we receive about our roads.
"We have made several improvements to this junction in recent years, including clearer signage and renewed road markings."
