Drivers are being advised to plan their journeys and to be aware of diversions ahead of overnight closures on the A303.

National Highways is carrying out resurfacing work along a three-mile section between the Longbarrow roundabout and the start of the dual carriageway section to the west of Winterbourne Stoke in Wiltshire. The work will begin on 31 March.

The road will be closed overnight on weeknights between 20:00 BST and 06:00 until 2 May, but will be paused over the Easter weekend. A full weekend closure will be in place from 21:00 on 25 April until 06:00 on 28 April.

Diversions will be in place for the duration of the works.

Traffic will be diverted while work is carried out

Motorists travelling eastbound will be diverted along the A303, then on the A36 to Wilton, before heading back up the A360 to the Longbarrow roundabout.

Westbound traffic will be diverted via the same route in reverse.

HGVs travelling eastbound will be diverted along the A303 and A36 to the B390 at the junction for Chitterne, then via the A360 to rejoin at the Longbarrow roundabout, again with the westbound diversion in reverse.

Project manager, Tracey Matthews, said: "The resurfacing scheme will ultimately bring benefits for local residents and the travelling public and, although we appreciate roadworks can be frustrating, we're keeping the closures to an absolute minimum and we thank all drivers in advance for their co-operation and patience."
