Drivers in Guildford have been warned about fake QR codes appearing on parking meters.

In a Facebook post, Surrey County Council's highways team said they had received reports of fraudulent codes "designed to trick you into entering your payment details on unofficial sites that look like RingGo's site".

The council reminded residents and visitors to the area that QR codes are not used by RingGo for parking payments.

It appealed for any suspicious activity to be reported to trading standards immediately.

"Scammers are using these sites to steal your information, which could lead to financial loss and unexpected parking fines," added the Facebook post.

"Stay safe and double-check before you pay!"
