Spurs legends take to golf course for charity

The tournament saw supporters put into teams with their footballing heroes

Former Tottenham Hotspur players who won the 1984 Uefa Cup have helped raise money for a Jersey charity.

Several members of the squad played a charity golf tournament at La Moye Golf Club on Wednesday.

They did it to support Focus on Mental Illness, a charity providing help for people with conditions like bipolar disorder.

It was the first major fundraiser for the charity and it is hoped the event will raise "significant" funds.

Ossie Ardilles said he had fond memories of visiting Jersey

Argentina World Cup winner and former Spurs midfielder Ossie Ardilles was one of those who took part in the tournament.

Ardilles said he was "very, very happy to be back in Jersey" after visiting several times in the past.

He said he was a "very bad golf player" but joked that he "cheats a little bit" and "makes it fun".

Former defender Paul Miller said the side visited the island during mid-season breaks

Former defender Paul Miller said the club's ties with Jersey goes back to the early 1980s.

"We loved coming here for mid-season breaks," he said.

Liz Kendrick-Lodge said the tournament would make a big difference

Liz Kendrick-Lodge, from Focus on Mental Illness, said it was a big day for the charity.

She said funds raised from the event would help give people access to therapy.

“We want to support families as well," she said.

"In order to do that we need money from events like this."
