A fugitive who sparked a manhunt when he escaped from hospital while under arrest has appeared in court.

Daryl Taylor was detained in Rendlesham, Suffolk, on Wednesday evening after absconding from Ipswich Hospital three days prior.

The 33-year-old appeared at Ipswich Magistrates' Court earlier where he was remanded to appear at the town's crown court in September.

Suffolk Police said three other men had been arrested on suspicion of assisting Taylor in his escape.

Their latest arrest came on Thursday, with all three men released under investigation as inquiries continued.

The force said officers wanted to hear from people who saw "suspicious activity" in the Heath Road area of Ipswich on Sunday evening, between 21:45 BST and 22:15.

Earlier that day, Taylor had been charged with seven sexual offences against children.

He was detained with the help of the National Police Air Service and armed officers, at 19:00 on Wednesday.
