Arson arrest as blaze rips through hotel

A man has been arrested over a suspected arson attack at a hotel.

The fire, which was spotted at the Assheton Arms Hotel in Rochdale at 00:15 BST on Sunday, blazed through the early hours.

Several people were treated by North West Ambulance staff and one was taken to hospital, the fire service said.

The arrested man, aged in his 30s, is being questioned by Greater Manchester Police officers on suspicion of arson and assault.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue said: "Crews arrived quickly and worked overnight to extinguish the fire.

"All casualties were transferred into the care of North West Ambulance Service and one casualty has been conveyed to hospital."
