Parents and carers with children due to start school in Guernsey and Alderney in 2025 can now register for primary schools.

The States of Guernsey said children aged five before 1 September in any particular year were required to attend school or receive alternative education provision from the next academic term - unless exempt by law.

Children aged four on or before 31 August may also start school from the beginning of the academic year if spaces are available, it said.

Forms are available at the individual schools and on the States website - applicants will need to provide a photocopied proof of address, a copy of the child's birth certificate and photographic proof of the carers' identity.

The States said parents and carers could apply for their child to attend a school outside of their catchment area, but they must apply to their catchment school, in addition to sending a request form to the schools admissions teams.

Baptised Catholic children may register at one of the two voluntary Catholic primary schools.

Registrations must be done by 15:00 BST on Friday 25 October - the States said those who did not meet the deadline would be given a lower priority if spaces are limited.
