Failure to stop driver dies after car hits tree

A driver has died following a crash after he failed to stop for a marked police vehicle.

Avon and Somerset Police said the man, who was in his 20s and was driving a black BMW 5 series, collided with a tree on the A370 at Flax Bourton on 6 November.

He was taken to hospital where he died on 15 November.

The force said it had referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over the incident.

Police said a passenger of the vehicle was also taken to hospital as a precaution.

The man's next of kin are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers, a police spokesperson added.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or anyone with relevant information is encouraged to get in touch with police.
