Firefighters rescued four dogs from a kennel after a nearby shed caught fire in a garden.

Essex fire service was called to Notley Road in Braintree at about 13:15 BST.

The three crews that attended requested a fourth appliance be sent to help after the flames spread to a garage.

"Diesel, Flo, Gigi and Miley were unharmed during the incident and have been reunited with their owners," a fire spokesperson added.

Group manager Scott Meekings said fire crews worked quickly to get the blaze under control.

"I'm really pleased we were able to get to the dogs quickly before the smoke started to affect them," he added.

Mr Meekings warned Notley Road would be closed "for some time" as the scene was made safe.
