An emergency road closure has been put in place and drain covers have been lifted due to heavy rainfall across Guernsey.

Traffic and Highway Services (THS) said Rue des Villains in Torteval had been closed due to "heavy rainfall over the last few hours".

It said the road surface had been damaged.

The service said other areas had also been affected and advised people driving through areas with surface water build up to drive slower than usual and "pay particular attention to debris" on the roads.

THS said a "number of drain covers" had been lifted by the water pressure on "many of the drainage systems around the island" and that itself and teams from Guernsey Water and States Works were attending and replacing them.

Jersey Met forecasters say heavy showers should clear away at lunchtime, and will be followed by an afternoon of sunny periods mixed with possibly thundery showers.
