Gymnast helps Orangutans out of a twist
In an evolutionary twist, a Dutch zoo has called in the services of an Olympic gymnast to re-teach orangutans how to climb trees in their enclosure.
Dirk Jan van Der Kolk, animal manager at the zoo, was concerned the orangutans had forgotten how to climb and swing from tree to tree after years in captivity. The zoo's new enclosure has been designed for the orangutans to return to an above-ground existence.
The zoo asked Olympic gymnast Epke Zonderland to teach the orangutans some new, old tricks. While it was not a complete success with the orangutans on day one, the general public seemed impressed.
