Pope arrives in Scotland for UK tour

The Queen has welcomed Pope Benedict to Edinburgh at the start of the first papal visit to the UK for 28 years.

He was officially received at Holyroodhouse ahead of a parade through the city and an open-air Mass in Glasgow.

Tens of thousands of people are lining the streets of Edinburgh to greet him, although protests are also planned.

On his arrival at Edinburgh Airport, the pontiff was first greeted by the Duke of Edinburgh.
