Sanctions leave Syria facing huge economic challenges

With fighting now having reached Syria's commercial capital Aleppo, experts say that in addition to growing humanitarian concerns, the country faces one of its biggest economic challenges yet.

Syria's banking system has been severely damaged. Deposits have shrunk and the industry has been cut off from the global financial system by sanctions against the Assad regime.

Added to that are concerns over a fall in the value of the Syrian pound and the threat of inflation.

Jonathan Frewin reports on the impact this is having on Syrians sending money home to their loved ones, or trying to do business with their country.
