Japanese electronics giants suffer

Japanese electronics firms used to be world beaters but today they are facing problems.

They are being hurt by increased global competition, a strong yen that is denting exports, and slumping demand for some of their products such as TVs.

On Wednesday their rival Panasonic posted a loss of $8.7bn for the six months to September.

So what is the way forward for these electronic giants and how can they start climbing back into the black?
