New Year offerings to sweeten China's 'kitchen god'

Craftsmen in China's Shandong Province have been busy making melon-shaped confections in the run-up to Lunar New Year celebrations.

Households traditionally leave out the sweet treats as an offering to appease the mythological "kitchen god".
