Russia's huge hydropower potential

Russia is a country full of rivers, streams and lakes, and yet so far only uses around 20% of its hydropower potential - compared to 80% for most G8 countries.

But now there is change in the air. State-owned hydropower RusHydro is investing massively in upgrading its creaking infrastructure and there are hopes that Siberia's mighty rivers could produce hydropower for export to energy-hungry China.

Oleg Boldyrev travelled to Russia's largest hydropower plant in Siberia to assess Russia's potential as an alternative energy superpower.
