China's farmers take agriculture mobile

In south and south-west China, farmers may not be able to go online, but are benefiting from an innovative mobile phone services.

China Mobile's Nongxinton is a farming information service that costs US$6 a day, and has over 20m subscribers.

Subscribers receive text or even audio messages. They contain advice, warnings, job opportunities, market prices - all tailored to their needs.

The goal is to narrow the huge urban-rural information gap - a pre-requisite to closing the huge income gap.
