Mackintosh opens first fashion store in London

In 1823, a chemist in Glasgow put a layer of rubber in between two cotton sheets, and created a new waterproof fabric.

His name was Charles MacIntosh, and the coats that were made using his invention soon became famous around the world.

Almost two centuries on, the company that bears the product's name is opening its first fashion store in London.
