Davos 2011: Medvedev urges global action on terrorism

The Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has opened this year's World Economic Forum in the Swiss resort of Davos, just two days after a bomb blast at a Moscow airport that killed 35 people.

Before speaking, the delegates in the hall observed a minute's silence in memory of those killed.

Mr Medvedev then began his speech by saying the terrorists had expected him to cancel his trip to Davos but had "miscalculated".

He told the crowd why it was important for him to spend a few hours in Davos.
