Tax computer system condemned as 'flawed' by MPs

A botched new computer system is being blamed for millions of people paying either too much or too little tax.

The blunder at HM Revenue and Customs is estimated to run into billions of pounds worth of incorrect payments.

A damning report on it has been released by a committee of MPs, led by Labour's Margaret Hodge, the chair of the public Accounts Committee.

She told the BBC people must be prepared to take responsibility for these kinds of mistakes.
