UK inflation rate rises to 4.4% in February

Inflation has risen sharply to its highest level in almost two and a half years.

The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) increased last month from 4% to 4.4%, way above the government's 2% target.

The CPI figure is the highest since October 2008, and will put pressure on the Bank of England to lift interest rates to curb accelerating inflation.

The BBC's Hugh Pym reports.
