Microsoft buys internet telephone network Skype for £5bn

The free internet telephone network, Skype, is being bought by Microsoft for more than £5bn.

The software giant is hoping it will help it compete against the likes of Google and Apple in the battle for the growing number of people using the internet to keep in touch with friends and family.
