UK manufacturers driving recovery

Britain's manufacturers are continuing to drive the economic recovery as demand for UK exports grows says the manufacturers' organisation the EEF.

The EEF say that April to June 2011 was the sixth quarter in a row in which the sector grew.

Since the economy started to recover, manufacturing has been responsible for one third of growth despite only accounting for around 13% of the economy.

However, the unpredictability of manufacturing costs is worrying the industry and they do not feel they can lower their prices just yet.

Lee Hopley is chief economist at the EEF, and she told the BBC there is strong demand from oversees which helps the export markets.
