Will UK economy reach GDP forecast?

The UK economy has been growing this year, but not by much, and there are concerns the government forecast will not be realised.

In the first three months of 2011 the economy grew by just 0.5%. This was put down to a slow down at the end of 2010 due to the bad weather.

On Friday it was confirmed that UK growth slowed in the second quarter to just 0.2%.

The government hopes to get 1.7% growth over the year - so there is still some way to go to reach that level.

Ross Walker is an economist at RBS and he predicts that growth could pick up in the third quarter.
