Shadow chancellor Ed Balls: Osborne must do more

The shadow chancellor Ed Balls has said Labour would support a government plan to underwrite bank loans to small and medium-sized businesses in an attempt to boost economic growth.

Details of the proposals will be revealed by the Chancellor George Osborne when he delivers his autumn statement on the economy on Tuesday.

Mr Balls told the BBC's Andrew Marr programme that he would back such a scheme, but repeated his call for the government to change course on its wider programme of cuts.
