Japan's Olympus sues 19 executives over $1.7bn fraud

The Japanese camera maker Olympus is suing 19 current and former executives for their involvement in a $1.7bn (£1bn) accounting cover-up at the firm.

The lawsuit comes after the company admitted to hiding losses for almost two decades. The company said that all board members subject to the lawsuit will resign over the next few months.

Olympus shares have tumbled more than 60% since the scandal broke last October. In Tokyo the BBC's Roland Buerk explained what Olympus is claiming in its lawsuits against the executives.
