RBS boss Stephen Hester considered resigning

The chief executive of RBS, Stephen Hester, says he considered resigning during the recent uproar about his bonus.

In his first broadcast interview since the furore, Mr Hester told the BBC he had decided to waive the bonus of almost a million pounds because it would have been too damaging to the bank to take it.

But he defended the idea that banks had to award bonuses to attract the best people.

The BBC's Robert Peston reports.
