UK unemployment levels rise to 2.67m

The number of people without a job in the UK has risen yet again.

Unemployment jumped by 48,000 in the quarter to December 2011 to 2.67 million, which is the worst figure since the end of 1995.

The number of people claiming Jobseeker's Allowance last month increased by 6,900 to 1.6 million.

Jamie Jenkins from Office for National Statistics says there is quite a bit of regional variation - the North East has the highest rate of unemployment rate in the UK.
