Big rise in UK retail sales

Retail sales have seen their biggest rise in more than a year in March - rising by 1.8%.

The Office for National Statistics says retail sales sees an annual rise of 3.3%.

Unusually warm weather in march helped drive the sales of clothing and footwear - as well as gardening products.

The run on petrol, as well as an early Easter also helped boost retail sales.

Natalie Berg from Planet Retail told the BBC, "overall it's good news but we can't ignore underlying pressure on the consumer".
