Simulators recreate 'total reality' for airline pilots

Over the next 20 years about 500,000 airline pilots and 600,000 maintenance engineers will be needed to safely fly and maintain a global fleet of aircraft carrying billions of passengers.

Training providers are working harder than ever to deliver skilled pilots and this has caused a spike in the demand for aircraft training simulators.

David Owens, senior director of flight crew training policy at Airbus, explains why simulators are effective at training pilots.
