Boris Johnson: Living Wage makes economic sense

London Mayor Boris Johnson has supported a rise in the Living Wage, a campaign which calls for a rate of pay which is higher than the minimum wage.

Mr Johnson said the wage level was not only beneficial for the recipient, but "made economic sense" for the whole of London's economy.

The so-called London Living Wage, which was introduced in 2005 and is calculated on the basis of the cost of living, has risen to £8.55.

The wage is not binding on any firm but up to 200 employers back the scheme, benefiting 11,500 workers since 2005.
