Self-employment boom among over-50s amid recession

The number of people who are self-employed has risen by more than a third of a million since the start of the economic downturn in 2008.

The Office for National Statistics says that most of the rise is due to more over-50s setting up their own businesses.

Kathy Randell, 61, runs a patchwork and sewing business. She told BBC Radio 5 live's Victoria Derbyshire what steps she and her partner took to become their own bosses.
