Hugh's review: What next at the Bank of England?

The handover at the top of the Bank of England is due to happen in a week's time. Mark Carney will replace Sir Mervyn King and there's already speculation he may press for more action to boost growth with an expansion of the money creation programme known as QE (quantitative easing).

Meanwhile global stock markets have fallen sharply on speculation that the US Federal Reserve will pull back on its QE policy.
