Fonterra responds to health scare

The world's biggest dairy producer Fonterra has been hit by a health scare, which has led to a major recall of some of its products.

The New Zealand company said a whey product used in infant formula and sports drinks had been contaminated by a bacteria that can cause the sometimes fatal illness botulism.

There have been no reported illnesses so far, but many countries have temporarily stopped or restricted the import of some Fonterra products.

Steve McGinnes, managing director of brand development in Asia for the branding and design consultancy SGK, told Asia Business Report that Fonterra's response to the crisis has been impressive.
