Female CEO: 'Don't impose boardroom gender targets'

Most large financial institutions will have to set a target for the number of women on company boards by the start of next year.

It follows recent research that shows just over 17% of directorships in the FTSE 100 are held by women - but is "gender representation" the right way to redress the balance?

Helena Morrissey is founder of the 30% club and chief executive of Newton Asset Management.

She told BBC Radio 5 live's Wake Up to Money: "The idea of doing this via coercion of some sort, of having regulation around the issue, is wholly unwelcome... Companies need to believe in it, not have it imposed on them."
