India struggles with high onion prices

India is facing an eye-watering problem - the price of red onions has skyrocketed and become a key issue in the country.

A month ago, one kilogram of onions would have cost about 20 rupees. Since then, the price has gone up nearly five-fold, costing up to 100 rupees and stinging everyone in India.

Onions are a staple in many Indian dishes, and price rises have been the source of large protests in recent years.
