South Africa's strike 'dilemma'

South African motor industry workers have failed to reach a deal with their bosses at Toyota, Ford and BMW.

The trade union wants a 14% rise in pay but their employers are offering 10%.

Lerato Mbele in Johannesburg told BBC World the strike was part of wider industrial action which was seeing some workers demanding a 60% increase to cope with rising living costs.

But, she said, "It is a real dilemma... the economy's not growing, there aren't any investments... and this is where the problem lies".
