Oman invests millions in the tourism industry

For years Oman was closed to outside visitors, but that all changed in the 1980s when millions began to be invested in infrastructure and leisure facilities.

The government hopes its latest wave of spending will help to attract up to a million visitors a year.

But with strong competition from neighbouring United Arab Emirates and a region beset with political unrest, will holidaymakers really choose Oman?
