Life in Gibraltar and on its border

The escalation of the long-running dispute between the UK and Spain over who should rule Gibraltar is having a negative impact on people who commute to work there, it is being claimed.

Thousands of people regularly cross to the prosperous British territory, to work in tourism and the gaming industries, from a nearby Spanish border town where unemployment is 40%.

But Spanish roadblocks imposed in response to the installation of an artificial reef by the Gibraltar government are causing long delays at the border.
