Strike over soybean prices in Indonesia

Indonesian makers of the popular soybean snacks, tempe and fried tofu, have been on strike this week. They are protesting over the high price of soybeans.

Indonesia does not produce enough soybeans to meet local demand, so manufacturers have to import the product.

But the weaknesses of the local currency, which has fallen nearly 18% against the US dollar since May, means the beans have become too expensive.

Our Indonesia correspondent Karishma Vaswani reports from Jakarta.
