New RBS boss Ross McEwan pays tribute to Stephen Hester

Royal Bank of Scotland's new chief executive, Ross McEwan, has marked his first day in the top job with a speech to staff.

He started with a tribute to his predecessor, getting laughs as he said Stephen Hester had left with "a very big smile on his face".

However he struck a more serious note as he vowed to make customers a priority and repay the faith of UK taxpayers who still own 81% of the bank after it was bailed out for £45bn in 2008.
