Welfare reforms 'hit Northern Ireland hardest'

The welfare reforms being put in place across the UK will hit people in Northern Ireland harder than anywhere else, according to a report.

Researchers from Sheffield Hallam University say changes to benefits will take £750m a year out of its economy.

People on Incapacity Benefit and Disability Living allowance will be switched on to new benefits with a tougher test, and there is a greater percentage of people receiving those benefits in Northern Ireland than anywhere else in the UK.
