Duncan Smith on work programme, benefits and sanctions
The vast majority of people who become unemployed are "incredibly motivated" and nearly 80% are back in work within six months, said the works and pension secretary.
But Iain Duncan Smith said the Job Centre reported there are some "who are deliberately playing the system" and there were new sanctions for them. He said the existing mandatory work programmes showed 70% of them "just disappeared off the benefits roll".
He was speaking to Andrew Neil about the level of the minimum wage. and plans announced at the Conservative conference to "mark the end of the something-for-nothing culture".
