UK inflation: 'Air fares offset fall in petrol prices'

UK inflation measured by the consumer prices index (CPI) was 2.7% in the year to September, unchanged from August.

The retail prices index (RPI) measure of inflation fell slightly to 3.2% from 3.3% in August.

A fall in petrol prices was offset by a reduced seasonal drop in air fares, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.

ONS Head of Consumer Prices Index Philip Gooding also told BBC News that university fees and oil prices would be influential in future.
