India's space ambition takes off

India's space ambitions will take a further step forward this month when its unmanned Mars orbiter blasts off on a nine month voyage to the red planet.

The mission is a showcase for India's engineering prowess and an opportunity to put them in the global running for space exploration.

But when a country is still home to millions of people in extreme poverty, why do they feel the need to explore other worlds?
