Scottish Power scraps major offshore wind farm plans

Scottish Power is abandoning plans to develop a major offshore wind farm off the coast of Tiree in the Inner Hebrides.

The £5.4bn Argyll Array scheme would have had up to 300 turbines - capable of powering up to a million homes.

However Scottish Power Renewables said the site faced construction issues and the project was not financially viable in the short term.

Maf Smith from RenewableUK told BBC Radio 5 live's Dominic Laurie: "To put it in perspective, there's still a lot of development offshore."
