Irish PM Enda Kenny marks bailout exit with TV address

The Irish Republic's prime minister has marked the end of the country's three-year bailout programme with a televised speech to the nation.

Enda Kenny acknowledged the "devastating consequences of unemployment and emigration", but thanked the Irish people for the "part they had played" in restoring Ireland's sovereignty.

He said: "The government will work with you to put in place the foundations for a secure and prosperous future."
