Malaysia fast-food firms face foreign staff ban

The Malaysian government has banned fast-food outlets from hiring foreign workers.

At least one in six workers in Malaysia is from poorer neighbouring countries, such as Indonesia and Nepal.

They usually run local restaurants or are used as manual labour in the construction of buildings, apartment blocks and roads.

But the government is keen for businesses to rely less on the cheap foreign labour pool and hire more locals.

The BBC's Jennifer Pak visited one fast-food outlet to assess how the industry will cope.
